Adolescence: what are the care options for young skin?

Essential skincare guide for teens who can't take any more unproven information.

As interest in the beauty market increases every day, and the age group that encounters it is getting smaller and smaller, the cosmetics market for young people is growing rapidly. They usually buy cosmetics from high street stores or drugstores and gain beauty knowledge through YouTubers and beauty friends.

Furthermore, with the development of applications that allow convenient viewing of cosmetic ingredients, the number of interested young people is increasing. However, there is a lot of confusing information, so check out the tips we are going to give you here.

For teenagers, hormonal changes in the body and skin occur all the time, and it is important to understand the characteristics of the skin that differ from those of adults. Check out the guide that will provide the correct skin care routine according to the characteristics of your teenager's skin.

Hormone levels and acne due to stress

In adolescence, metabolism is more active and hormone secretion increases rapidly, so changes in the body and physiology are noticeable. Due to the imbalance of the secretion of androgens and estrogen hormones, the production of sebum increases, and the sebum clogs the pores, making the skin dull, so it is easy to develop pustular acne.

Furthermore, teenagers spend most of their time in schools and gyms, and stress in college entrance exams, exams and studying. This increases the occurrence of skin problems such as acne and pimples due to the increase in cortisol, the stress hormone. As a result, acne can appear on the T-zone of the face, as well as the entire face, back and chest. Teenage acne, unlike adult acne, naturally improves over time, but care must be taken as it can leave scars if not treated properly.

Contact dermatitis

Contact dermatitis are spots caused by contact with external substances. It can also occur frequently in teenagers who frequently touch their skin with dirty hands or squeeze their pimples. Additionally, it appears when teenagers with thinner skin use adult cosmetics, causing follicular breakouts around the mouth, and eyeshadow or eyeliner can cause lichenification reactions that thicken the skin around the eyes.

Care should be taken when using color cosmetics containing metallic components such as chromium, as it can cause an allergic reaction on the skin. Be careful about sharing cosmetics with friends.

Excellent regeneration capacity

As adolescents' skin has excellent regenerative capacity, inflammation healing is much faster than in adults. For example, even though acne strikes in the same way, if the right skin care solution is implemented at the right time, fewer acne marks will remain and effective improvement can be expected. Of course, with the premise that hydration is up to date along with effective ingredients.

The key is to balance the skin in which excess sebum is secreted and focus on simple moisturizing composition rather than functional products like whitening and anti-aging. We recommend natural hypoallergenic ingredients and you don't need to look for expensive high-performance products. It is enough if you feel that the product is suitable without causing any problems. On the contrary, if you apply too much cosmetics unnecessarily, be careful, as this can harm the condition of your skin, causing acne or pore problems.

1st Step: Facial Cleansing

The most important thing for teenagers is meticulous cleaning. As the skin is relatively sensitive, it is important to use a cleanser that minimizes skin redness and controls sebum (oil) secretion. At this time, if you use too much of an alkaline cleanser, be careful as it can increase the acidity (pH) of your skin and damage your skin's lipid barrier. It is recommended to wash your face twice in the morning and evening, wash your hands thoroughly before washing your face, not for a long time than 1 to 2 minutes.

Due to the nature of teenagers' skin having a strong secretion of sebum in the morning, cleaning the face that has become oily overnight with a cleanser would be the right way. Furthermore, if you have makeup on, you should pay more attention to this cleaning process. You should avoid cleaning with just a cleansing wipe, cleansing foam without removing spot makeup, or going to bed with makeup on.

If you are wearing makeup, we recommend double cleansing with Cleansing Oil, Cleansing Water or another type of makeup remover. Strong lip makeup, eyeliner and waterproof mascara should be removed using a remover suitable for these areas on a cotton pad before cleaning.

2nd Step : Exfoliation

Exfoliation is important to take care of skin that has accumulated dead cells due to excessive secretion of hormones. The biggest factor causing problems is when dead cells clog pores or when the skin barrier becomes abnormally thick. Care is possible with a chemical exfoliant containing AHA and salicylic acid.

Once every 1-2 weeks, removing dead skin cells, sebum in pores and acne germs will reduce blackheads and whiteheads, alleviate redness and leave skin smoother. However, be aware that exfoliating too frequently can make your skin sensitive and hurt depending on the case.

3rd Step : Tonic

It is the toner that prepares the skin texture after cleansing and efficiently provides nutrients and moisture for the next stage, such as lotions, serums, ampoules, etc., which are even more important for teenagers. This is because these types of products control sebum secretion as they adjust the skin's pH. It is also effective in treating pores and removing makeup residue.

Choose an alcohol-free toner and, when using it, apply it to a cotton pad and rub gently, from the inside out, or take it in your hands and apply it to the skin and then wait for it to be absorbed.

4th Step : Hydration

Don't skip the hydration step just because you have a lot of sebum secretion. Even if the skin doesn't feel tight after cleansing, if you don't provide hydration, the skin will produce more sebum to compensate for the lack of hydration. Apply a light cream or lotion with moisturizing ingredients like glycerin, ceramide, hyaluronic acid, and sodium PCA to provide sufficient moisture to the skin.

In addition, you should avoid the habit of applying a drying agent exclusively for acne to your entire face, without a dermatologist's prescription. When using, only apply to areas in need under the prescription of a specialist. When applied all over the skin, it irritates the skin barrier, creating an inflamed environment and can cause sensitive, dry skin in the long term.

5th Step : Sunscreen

Sunscreen is an essential item regardless of age or season, but many teens skip it. Ultraviolet rays are one of the factors that aggravate skin problems, and if you want to minimize scars and acne marks, sunscreen is essential. Use a light sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher that blocks UVA and UVB rays every day.

If you have sensitive skin, use inorganic UV filters with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which form a film on the surface of the skin, are not absorbed by the skin and reflect ultraviolet rays. For skin with oily, problematic and excessive sebum secretion, it is best to choose a non-comedogenic product that does not clog pores and contains oil-free ingredients. Choose a light cream formulation and reapply frequently so it doesn't come off easily due to sebum buildup.
